There is a saying in our Ghanaian domain that,"even if you are not strong, not on your homeland".The case was different in Wembley,May 28,2011 UEFA Champions League finals between Manchester United and Fc Barcelona.
Prior to qualifications into the finals,Fc Barcelona looked strong both on paper and on the field any time they played.Manchester United whom many taught were "favoured" as to Wembley, for that matter London hosting the finals would take advantage on home soil to revenge the 2009 defeat to Fc Barcelona, were rather taken to school and taught some scintillating footballing lessons.
Manchester United could not accumulate a 40% ball possession after the entire proceedings which is uncharacteristic of them.Manchester who on any day would prove a tough nut to crack for any club, were totally over-powered by Fc Barcelona.Their passes were very pedestrian and found it difficult to possess the ball for a longer period. It looked like Manchester were gripped by fear right from the onset.
The equalizer came and fans everywhere went gay.Thoughts were that,Manchester would injcet some pace into the game, but nothig of that sort was seen.Antonio Valencia who did not have his day, kept committing unwarranted fouls whom I thought should have been given the marching orders earlier in the game.
Second half was worse when Fc Barcelona combined quick, short passes and great inter-positional movement to out-play Manchester United. The midfiel was consumed by XAVI,INIESTA AND BUSQUETS living J S PARK,RYAN GIGGS,MICHAEL CARRICK and ANTONIO VALENCIA,who later moved to right back chasing their shadows. That rendered ROONEY and CHICHARITO impotent up-front and as a result unable to get any more goals.
Indeed football is illogical and anything could happen any time anywhere and on any day.Although not a fan of both teams,Fc Barcelona desreved the trophy and in my opinion the best club currently.
