Award –winning Ghanaian film-maker, writer, producer and director Kwaw Ansah has told portaltoafrica.com last Saturday during the premiere of the Good old Days: Suffering to Loose at the National Theatre that he can’t stand the name Ghallywood and therefore don’t want to have anything to do with it.
Kwaw who’s works has been describe by the media and the general public as a “typical Ghanaian movie” which depicts African culture was asked why he did not submit his movies to the jury during the Ghana Movie Awards (GMA) responded he didn’t do that because he doesn't want to be part of it. “I can’t stand the name Ghallywood and so I did not participate in the Ghana movie Awards.
If they change it, I will join. What is wood?” he asked.
A close source to the TV Africa boss also disclosed to portaltoafrica that Mr. Ansah warned all his workers not to submit any of his movies for the GMA jury and that if they do, they will be dealt with. Speaking to some of the audience who came to the premiere, some said they just can’t have a word to describe the man’s work and that this are the stories that they expecting from Ghanaian film-makers. “Mr. Kwaw Ansah needs a special award from the government for the works he is producing in the movie fraternity.
His movies are just Ghanaian and you will love every scene of it. Casting, picture quality, story line, sound, everything in Kwaw Ansah’s film is just wonderful and this is what we expect from a Ghanaian producer, director and every writer. Suffering to loose depicts the Ghanaian culture and it a story I believe every Ghanaian citizen will be familiar with but you just can’t stop watching because of how the movie was made” a movie enthusiasts stated.
The movie is promised to be premiered soon in the other ten regions of Ghana.
